Community engagement and public outreach are not only important, but fundamental.
As a scientist, my objective is to deepen our understanding of the world by contributing to the academic knowledge base while also engaging and including anyone interested in these discoveries. Generating new data should not be limited to the publication of academic papers; it should also serve local communities and the general public, who have a vested interest in the history of their communities and our shared world.
I try to foster and nurture this invaluable relationship between researchers and communities in a variety of ways. Collaborating with local scholars and experts, discussing and organizing workshops with local communities, and including everyone as authors who had a role in publications (from students who helped in the field to senior academics who offered their decades-long experience) are just some of these ways.
Outside of my biological, environmental and digital research, I also actively participate in community engagement within my home of origin by being a founding member of Associazione LatinArchè©.

Associazione LatinArchè© is an Italian Associazione di Promozione Sociale (Social Promotion Association, registered 08.19) with headquarters in Rocca Priora, Rome, Italy. We work in the area called Castelli Romani (Roman Castles), a vulcanic region just South of Rome with millennia of history and cultural traditions.
-
Our Society was born from the passion of young archaeologists and historians of the Castelli Romani. Our main objective is the growth and rediscovery of this territory.
-
A variety of different activities are carried out, all concerning the archaeological and ecological history education and engagement of the Castelli Romani. Some of the activities we have organised include: experimental archaeology events for children and adults, local archaeological tours and hiking walks, local history workshops and lectures, and history classes for elementary classes in local schools.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the impossibility of in person events, we created a series of coloring books. These fun and children-friendly books (available in local bookstores and online), tell stories of ancient myths and legends from the Castelli Romani area.
